It's been an interesting month in the world of Wall Art
The month of March has seen a number of historic wall art related headlines being featured across the globe for a wide array of reasons.
Last week saw the announcement that art historians have found evidence of a lost masterpiece by Leonardo Da Vinci called The Battle of Anghiari, on a wall in a hidden area of Florence town hall. This wall art by Da Vinci is believed to have been hidden for five centuries making it an astonishing find.
The paint tested by art investigators is very similar to the world famous Mona Lisa, which was painted around the same time that Da Vinci was working in the hall in 1504 on a piece of wall art. Only half completed, Da Vinci's work was believed to have been lost in 1555 when renovation work was being carried out.

More research is required to prove if this is indeed the work of Leonardo Da Vinci, early signs are that this could be the wall art find of the century, we shall see.
Yesterday saw news that a theif in China had been sentenced to 13 years in prison for stealing wall art and other relics for Forbidden City. Many collections of unique paintings, bronze, ceramic and other historic artifacts are held there.
These works of wall art could have been lost forever as it has been reported that out of the 9 items stolen only 4 were actually taken outside of the walls of Forbidden City. The thief did not manage to sell the items and simply threw them away, thankfully they were recovered in a litter bin.
Until 2010 this crime could have been punished with death, this really does show how many cultures around the world place a very high value and place in their traditions on wall art and other art relics.
From historic findings to crime, March has already given wall art fans and appreciators plenty to think about. Hopefully there will be more news hitting the headlines for the right reasons for the remainder of the month!
If you are looking for a piece of stunning wall art to showcase in your property please feel free to visit our homepage http://www.whoartnow.co.uk, we can create bespoke canvas prints to suit your own tastes. Featured art : Arcrylic Heart Print by Victoria Mason.

New Art Collection from Joed Mode We are very excited to have a fresh new range of art from Joe’d Mode is a passionate UK-based artist, specialising in quirky, innovative, fresh art that combines her photography, pen & ink illustrations, vector and digital skills to produce an intriguing mix of styles. Joe’d’s work is strongly influenced by her graphic design background and she still takes on interesting freelance graphic design projects to date. ‘I like to keep an eye on current/future trends in fashion, music, design, interiors, art . . . anything really that people are soaking up and then give it a whole new dimension.
In her words, I like to mix old and new to challenge people’s preconceptions as to what art is and sometimes create pieces that trick the viewer and / or challenge their own thoughts – all in a playful way. To be able to create thought-provoking work that becomes very personal to somebody is hugely satisfying. I can articulate what I want to say in my artwork more than I ever could in words and it’s awesome that people can relate to it and enjoy it. I do have a soft spot for street art and I think my work is evolving to that particular style at present, but in the future who knows . . . mixing things up is what I love to do" - Joe’d Mode 2011. Is Art Beating the Economic Downturn? The
current economic state has had a negative effect on sales trends in
many industries. Business turnover and profits have generally taken a
downturn over the past few years, especially in the retail and high
street sectors.
It seems however that
art is fighting against this trend and many art dealers, retailers
and galleries are reporting record high sales for the year of 2011
when compared to previous year’s sales.
Only yesterday globally
renowned Christies announced record revenues in 2011, selling art
over the year to the value of £3.6 billion. When compared to the
previous year of 2010, this is a growth of 9% which really does show
that art is beating the downturn in the short term at least.
As a manufacturer and
retailer of canvas prints and wall
art, WhoArtNow can vouch for the ups and downs of the art world
over the past few years. The way that people search for art retailers
has also changed over the past few years.
Many new advertising
avenues such as group buying, affiliates and international expansion
have all been areas that have opened new doors than in previous years
to online retailers.
As the economic climate
continues to take a downward spiral the question must be how long can
the art world fight and continue to make positive upward movements?
The answer hopefully will be every year!
There are certain
industries like art that seem bulletproof at this moment in time from
the current recession however there should be more thought given as
to why these industries do better than others. Obviously the
longevity of products such as wall art and canvas
prints means more value for money than for example a new pair of
trainers or luxury food.
How the art world fares
in 2012 is anybody’s guess at this moment in time, WhoArtNow will
continue to produce bespoke wall
art to inspire and offer a cost effective, affordable art
solution throughout the year. We hope the art sector continues to
grow from strength to strength!

Canvas Prints Make Great Valentine’s Day GiftsFebruary, the shortest
month in the calendar is also seen by many as a month of romance and
a time to celebrate your love towards your partner in a number of
ways.
This year is a leap
year, which means that there is an extra 29th day during
February 2012 which is traditionally associated with women being
allowed to propose to men in the British Isles.
Of course any lucky
lady has the right to propose to their partner at any time of year,
in any year they choose, although sticking to age old traditions
helps to add to the romance.
The 14th
February sees the arrival of Saint Valentine’s Day where people buy
gifts and send romantic cards to their partners to show their love
and appreciation for them. It is also an opportunity for people who
want to try and show someone they have romantic affection for them to
send a present and card in the hope of love.
What better way for you
to give your partner the perfect romantic present than through canvas
prints. Imagine your loved ones face when they open up a gift
that contains a bespoke canvas print that captures that romantic
moment when you were on holiday gazing into an awesome sunset.
It could be a picture
of both of you having a candlelit dinner, or perhaps a memorable,
loving shot from your wedding. It really does not matter what moment
from your relationship you choose to showcase via canvas prints, your
partner will love it.
For anyone wanting to
impress someone in the hope of creating a romance it could be a great
idea to go for a canvas print
that relates to the other person. An image of you and them may be a
little bit too heavy prior to any relationship actually starting!
Whatever your romantic
situation, consider canvas
prints as a very real, fantastic Valentine’s Day gift solution.

Can Tablet Computers Really Challenge Canvases?
For thousands of years artists have created their masterpieces on many different types of canvases and materials, from linen and cotton over the centuries through to ultra modern metal and vinyl to showcase artwork this industry has evolved.
In recent years a perhaps unlikely challenger in the form of computer tablets has forced its way in to art world with both artists and art fans alike using them to showcase their favourite pieces of art. In 2010 globally renowned artist David Hockney decided to put down his paintbrush and create an exhibition with art through Ipads, not canvases.
Many artists have followed his lead, creating art through interactive, online programmes without picking up a brush and just using their finger on the touch screen tablets as an alternative. Apple, the creator of Ipad's have thousands of art applications available to download, some suit more experienced artists while others have training for novices. Around the UK there are a lot of chic bars, cafes and galleries that are turning to interactive art in a bid to get the younger generation creating their own works of art and increasing the passion for finger painting.
With the popularity of art being created by using computer tablets on the increase, should traditional art lovers, critiques and artists be worrying about the impact it will have on fine art on canvases or will it be embraced as a new style of art instead of a challenger to age old techniques?
Time is always the best judge of how well a sweeping style of art will dominate or fade away in some cases. In the last half century there have been many new styles of art such as pop, graffiti, metal, street and urban art to name a few that have emerged and grown in popularity on a global scale.
There will always be a demand for canvases and canvas prints from a cost perspective, after all it would cost thousands of pounds as a minimum investment to decorate a whole property with Ipads or other tablets, again time may change that issue; we shall watch this eagerly.

How Will Art Affect 2012
At the speed of light we are already in 2012, it doesn't seem more than a couple of weeks since we were making our predictions in October 2011 for next year's interior trends and here we are already. Going into 2012 there are still ongoing global conflicts, fears of a double dip recession and financial woes across the planet.
This year also sees some very positive sporting events that will have global appeal and also spark passion in the UK amongst sporting fans. London hosts the Olympics whilst Poland hosts the European Football Championships in which England will be playing at least three matches during the group stages.
With the diversity in emotions between current negative global issues such as the financial crisis and the positive's of our nation's football team doing well art can provide balance and also help to alter moods and personaility one way or the other.
For example, many people are choosing to decorate their walls and interiors with uplifting colours and canvas prints that really brighten up a room and give off a warm, positive karma that helps with individual personality on a paticular day. Bright coloured art and images also help during the winter months when we have more hours of darkness than daylight and often go for days without a day of sunlight. People affected by the recession or with financial woes will not want to be sat in a living room, bedroom or workplace that is filled with black, dark blue or negative images, this would onl serve to make people more depressed and give off an increased negative vibe during the day.
Art really can affect people's emotions and persona, with major sporting events coming up nostalgia is also on people's minds and heroes of yesteryears become fashionable once again as they are showcased through art and canvas prints for all to see. Think of iconic moments that gripped the nation such as Gazza's tears in the World Cup Semi Final of 1990, Bobby Moore Holding the World Cup aloft at Wembley Stadium in 1966 or Linford Christie winning the 100metre sprint at Barcelona in 1992. All these histroic moments will lift moods by reflecting triumpth, emotion and spark memories, this is the power of art.
Pride in our nation is also expected to be at the forefront of people's minds especially with the Olympics being hosted in our capital city London and being showcased to the whole world with millions of people watching every live event daily. This pride is sure to be presented by individuals at home and in the workplace through canvas prints of olympic symbols, London related images and even old London images.
Expect red double-decker buses, old red phone booths, images of the Thames River and Riverbank, Skylines of Lnodon and symbolic buildings such as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and such like.
However you choose to alter your persona and emotion through art it is without doubt art will have a direct effect on 2012 in many ways, we shall wait eagerly to see and look forward to your feedback throughout the year!
Happy New Year and Best Wishes for 2012 from all at WhoArtNow!

We have a selection of new hand painted pieces from Victoria Mason, some of (which like Slate Honeycomb) are for the Interior trends 2012. We also have hot new London Photographer - Ev Sekkides - who's work including a range of London landscapes, some abstract shots, and some rare shots of Slavik Gabinsky doing a private recital. Here is a brief overview of some of the new pieces featured on the site: Slate Honeycomb Canvas Print A fun and simple chalk design by Victoria Mason, done in greyish greens, oranges and yellows Primary Bling Quad Canvas Print A 4 piece brushed design in primary blue and yellow, mixed in and spiralled over an off white background across four canvasses.

Falling Yellow Canvas Print A fun and vibrant depiction of falling leaves spiralling around pink flowers in bold yellow and pink to make the image a real eye popper, set over a black background infused with fun doodles to give the image depth. After much deliberation and design work, finally the art team at Whoartnow have come up with a delectable range of Typography based images for your viewing pleasure! As a new and trendy interior trend at the moment new waves of Typography art have hit the design world, from the simplest of ideas, to new takes on classic Typography based images, all the way to the most complex images built entirely from text, this style has taken the art world by storm. So I hear you ask.... What is Typography?
Well Typography actually refers to the way in which text is displayed on a page, be it handwritten or a webpage, the use of Typography has become widely recognised as becoming an entirely different form of art all together. Not only is it used to make sure text is placed effectively and in accordance to the reason it was written, but it has now become a way of designing pieces of illustrated art using text as the focal point of the image itself.
Personally I think the use of type to build an image is not only a fantastic idea but gives the phrase "A picture means a thousand words" a whole new and more literal meaning. To be able to build an image entirely out of letters is not as easy as one might think, it takes time, effort and an accurate eye, unfortunately for me I did not realise this until it was my turn to have a go. I mean some Typography is relatively easy, well not easy as there is still a lot of thought over placement, colour, font and even size, but for the most part the simplest of Typography is easier than building images out of words! There is some real skill and time that goes into the more complex designs, I've had a go myself but even an as an artist and photographer the concept is still hard to grasp. The two pieces of art (top right [SunPower Scenes] and left [Blooming Lovely]) both by Nancy Satta, are both fantastic examples of how text can be used to add both depth and texture to an image. The type integrated into the image gives the image so much more to look at, with images like these the striking bold colours and simple detail are set off perfectly by the contrasting white circus themed text. Clever uses of both font and phrasing means the art itself holds hidden meaning, in this case portrayed by the text itself. Then on the opposite scale of Typography we have examples of more simple and to the point Typography art:
Here we have a few new takes on the classic Keep calm and carry on posters, ranging from a very British Keep calm.... Your on CCTV, all the way to a Sci-Fi lovers style Keep calm and use the force! There is a whole range of patriotic, funny and sensible versions of the Keep calm phrase available on the site. This is a massive trend at the moment, and the images can work almost anywhere in the home from the living area to the bathroom!! My favourite has to be Keep calm and make the tea, it's just so quintessentially British!!!
The above images, Fields of Promise, and Chrystal Clear again have incorporated text into the image but in a more subtle style. The text in these images continuously draws the eye in towards the image, begging for closer inspection, it is striking and yet at the same time so subtle it is almost unnoticeable. Again both images by Nancy Satta, done in her own iconic style. In contrast to these you have images like New York Geographic and San Francisco Geographic range which instead of incorporating text into an image, it has in fact incorporated the image into the text. A fun and effective way of making your type much more interesting, I suppose in images like the following you could say "A word holds a thousand images"!
A few other examples of ways Typography can be used can be seen with the following images: Let's be Frank, A very different kind of Robin, 100 Percent, Letters of Love Triptych
So many different types of Typography to choose from, keep an eye out on the Typography range as we are forever updating the site to include new artwork. Check the range for all the designs mentioned.

Canvas Prints Make the Perfect
Christmas Gift
It is that time of year again when
the high streets start to bring out the Christmas sale signs,
decorations and probably the most prominent occurrence that Christmas
is just around the corner; television adverts start to mention the
holiday season.
Every year the Christmas advertising
campaigns seem to get earlier however when you think about it, by the
time you have hit mid October you only have 10 weeks until the big
event. To a lot of people this may equate to two monthly pay days or
ten weekly pay packets with which to buy Christmas gifts.
Leaving Christmas shopping until the
last minute becomes a huge frustration and a busy time when you could
buy early pre-December and avoid the last minute madness. Canvas
prints are one such product that can really make the chosen
recipients Christmas. You could be buying for a partner, parent,
child or just a deserving friend, canvas prints can cover all these
scenarios by offering flexibility and affordability.
Lets presume you are a female buying
for your partner who has a love of all things retro, our retro canvas
prints section features everything from sporting greats, iconic
entertainers, actors, landmarks and just about anything you can think
of that will some way related to your partner. Imagine the look on
his face when presented with a sizeable present that can be hung on
the wall and showcased for him to enjoy and show off whenever friends
come round.
On the flip side it could be that you
are a male buying for your loved one, if she has never stopped
talking about that dream honeymoon, the beach memories and the
magical two weeks that live on in the mind forever, why not use a
canvas print to showcase
your favourite togetherness memories with a photo to canvas print
service, this will ensure you can view the moment and live it
forever.
Canvas prints make buying for
children a simple task, what young boy does not love action packed
cartoons and comic book characters, why not bring classic cult
characters such as batman, superman or any other favoured cartoon
hero to life through canvas
prints. For the little ladies canvas art can showcase perhaps
gentler images and also why not introduce an educational element for
boys and girls by choosing alphabet or number related canvas prints
and help them to master numbers and letters.
Buying for friends is perhaps a
really exciting element to canvas prints, think of those hundreds of
childhood, early teen and young adult memories captured on mobile
phones, cameras and disposable cameras, treating each of your closest
friends to a canvas print
featuring a lifelong treasured moment could bring your bond even
closer and help you grow old together with fantastic memories that
can be viewed in each others homes.
Due to the demand around Christmas
time, we recommend that you do not leave it any later than the 5th
of December to order your chosen canvas prints or multiple canvas
prints. As our service is high quality and bespoke we cannot
guarantee delivery after this date in time for the Christmas Day so
order early to avoid disappointment.
Please visit our homepage

to find the canvas art that
best suits your Christmas requirements and also for more useful

We are very proud to feature a selection of over 30 pieces from the eclectic sensation that is - PegZ. "King of Queens" features some of PegZ quintessential characters. Illustrated and then stencilled, and overlapped / repeated to build up a complex piece from a series of minimal designs, the result is bold, edgy peic "MrCow" & "El Matador" are examples of some pieces that have been put together for a forecomeing kids range with a bit of edge. Bold, minimal, all with his distinctive handwriting - finished with aerosol paint...... so watch this space for more.
"Rouge Beam" and "Claws of Gold" is a new direction from PegZ - and explores the abstract graffiti side of things. Inspriect by the likes of Remi/Rough it features the random, textured spray can work, mixed up with crisp, linear designs. Lima Beam & Lima Light go off in the same sort of direction, this time with a lime / slate grey feel. There are a load more beam inspired pieces on his artist pages -- feel free to check them out..! "Don't Worry" was a piece commissioned for Lost My Dog, a deep house record label with a track called "Don't Worry" by YSE. Starting as an illustration, it developed into a serious of mixed media pieces. There were a good few versions produced and we are lucky enough to have two never seen before remixes on the site..! For the originals - you can check his flickr pages out You can find more on work of PegZ on his dedicatd pages - his work flits in and out of styles from hand etching, doodling, traditional illustration, to a more experiment fusion of street art & graffiti to compliment his unique style" The inspiration behind his distinct and bizzare charactures creations can be seen to have been inspired by the likes of Ralph Steadman,Hunter S. Thompson, Phil Frost, Don't forget to check his website blog to keep with news and exhibitions, and hit him up on his facebook page to keep up to date with his movements.
