"Love is a Dream in Aqua Marine" s a pencil sketch, from photograph, produced in a contemporary aqua & giclee printed as a huge wallpaper mural print. from Joed Mode
My latest artwork - it's a pencil sketch I did from a photograph, combined with objects I made in Illustrator (the butterflies, swirls and the radios) then all mixed together in Photoshop. I've been wanting to make a wallpaper mural for ages - I want to design some more, I love doing this kind of thing. There are loads of vintage and modern wallpapers around but hardly any which merge the two styles together in a fresh way so that's what I've tried to do with this piece..." Joed Mode, 2012

It's been an interesting month in the world of Wall Art
The month of March has seen a number of historic wall art related headlines being featured across the globe for a wide array of reasons.
Last week saw the announcement that art historians have found evidence of a lost masterpiece by Leonardo Da Vinci called The Battle of Anghiari, on a wall in a hidden area of Florence town hall. This wall art by Da Vinci is believed to have been hidden for five centuries making it an astonishing find.
The paint tested by art investigators is very similar to the world famous Mona Lisa, which was painted around the same time that Da Vinci was working in the hall in 1504 on a piece of wall art. Only half completed, Da Vinci's work was believed to have been lost in 1555 when renovation work was being carried out.
More research is required to prove if this is indeed the work of Leonardo Da Vinci, early signs are that this could be the wall art find of the century, we shall see.
Yesterday saw news that a theif in China had been sentenced to 13 years in prison for stealing wall art and other relics for Forbidden City. Many collections of unique paintings, bronze, ceramic and other historic artifacts are held there.
These works of wall art could have been lost forever as it has been reported that out of the 9 items stolen only 4 were actually taken outside of the walls of Forbidden City. The thief did not manage to sell the items and simply threw them away, thankfully they were recovered in a litter bin.
Until 2010 this crime could have been punished with death, this really does show how many cultures around the world place a very high value and place in their traditions on wall art and other art relics.
From historic findings to crime, March has already given wall art fans and appreciators plenty to think about. Hopefully there will be more news hitting the headlines for the right reasons for the remainder of the month!

New art is being released this week from Fine Artist Victoria Mason

As well as our ever growing modern canvas art section, we recently launched our metal art range to great success and we've been busy spraying ever since. We do however keep getting questions about the best way to hang these beautiful hand crafted pieces of art on the wall. To make things as simple as possible for you to hang your bespoke artwork, we've pre-drilled the metal and the perspex with four holes, 1 for each corner. Each hole is drilled exactly 1" from either edge. Using these holes, we supply 4 inch sign support bolts to mount the art to the wall.
Fitting is simple: as well as the stand off bolts, you also get 4 screws and 4 raw plugs. You will need to drill four holes in the wall, attach the mount bolt base using the screw. Line up the 4 holes and screw in the end cap. For the metal art (62cm x 55cm) the internal measurements (central point of each hole) measures 620mm x 550mm. This is what it should be, but we recommend that you always measure each other the lengths yourself. The sign support bolts we supply are satin silver, and 20mm in profile. They have a perfect 20mm gap to the wall so that you have the choice to mount a light source behind the art to really draw attention to it. If you like the look of the metal and perspex art, but not sure of the exisiting artwork? Why not contact us with any ideas you might have & we can investigate options of making something to suit your needs. You can also leave us a note over at our Facebook page to...! New artwork will follow, watch this space..!
We are very proud to present a new range of art from Victoria Mason. Hand produced pieces with a touch of digital enhancement, these exclusive new works have a crafty organic feel.. Here are some of the highlights,
Rabbit Watched The Stars is a colourful piece by Victoria Mason. pink, yellow and grey make up this abstract image of a rabbit and a star placed upon a multi-textured background.
Baa Baa Blue Lamb features a lone blue lamb amongst a varied & textured deep purple background, digitally enhanced and reproduced on canvas.
Copy and Pasteis a four piece set, made up of various organic, hand-made materials to create different textures. A heart and star shape is duplicated & brown and sparkling gold are prominent here
Pink & Purple Swirl - a brush painted piece using mainly pink, purple and black. The artist creates this abstract image to print upon canvas.
Vibrant Whirl- features detail taken of a hand painted piece, printed on to canvas. IT is a dramatic, vibrant and bright piece, using of mainly featuring red & pink.
She is a Leicester based traditional artist, specialising and excelling in print making. With a background & degree in Fine Art & a huge passion for aesthetics, texture &colour, her work can be minimal, expressive, vibrant and always soulful. Her work is often about colour & placement, drawing inspiration mainly from nature, travel & different cultures.
As always here at WHoArtNow, we're always thinking about future products we could offer & trying to use innovative new technologies to achieve this. We have been having a play with printing on metal for quite some time now. Some of you may know that we already offer art on metal so how is this new? Well, our current popular range of stenciled artwork on metal is a costly way to metal art due to it all been done by hand. Printing directly onto metal is faster & involves less labour - so the bottom line is that it is more cost efficiently priced, so we can now look at offering it to the domestic market, not just B2B.
The metal is an innovative new product that is around 400 - 550 microns thick, with a metallic chrome finish. We are aiming to print it for sale as a sheet, to frame it or block mount it onto chunky perspex or Foam-X board. The image on the right is a good example of the colours & the clarity that can be achieved with this innovative new material.
So watch out for an initial range of our art printed on metal, which with be in palace by the end of April 2011, along with a new bespoke product - your photos on metal. Following the success of this, we may look at expaning to offering all of our prints on metal too. Feel free to give us some feedback on what you think of this new direction.
Options in the future will enable us to print custom art onto this metal, which will enable us to explained upon our bespoke popart range. Watch this space for future developments for Prices, sizes & finishes -- these will all be on the way. In the mean time don't forget to have a look at our existing Metal Art section and feel free to contact us if you need anything else.
** We'd love to here some feedback - follow links for getsatisfaction or feel free to post a comment below :D**
Here at WHoArtNow, we pride ourselves on being able to accomadate most people's wishes on custom canvases. From standard pop art images, to full custom commisions. We have a range of sizes meaning we can build canvases from 10"x10" all the way up to 72"x48"! That's 6ft by 4ft! However, we still get queries about custom sizes, and that's what this monster canvas was!
So how big is this canvas? We it's 2 identical canvases measuring a huge 3600cm by 75cm... That's 3.6m long! It's by far the largest print we've ever done and we're massively proud of how well it turned out. It is of course a stunning twilight photograph of London including the Thames, the London Eye and of course Parliament. For a reference to the size, Andy (the boss man) is 6ft 2!
If you're after something a little larger than our standard sizes, or you want something unique just for you, the best thing to do is get in contact with us and one of our designers will talk you through the process and rough prices. One thing to bear in mind about this canvases though is that as it's so big, it won't fit on a standard DHL van as it would stick out the back by a few feet!
Unfortunatly, the image on these canvases is currently not on our website as it was a full commision piece but there are some stunning cityscapes in the urban section. We're aiming to add this or some similar art soon so it's worth keeping an eye out or by signing up to our newsletter.
Our next big project is a huge image of a Nepal temple split over 4 100"x36" canvases to give a single image size of 254cm by 366cm, that;s 2.5m by 3.6m! Photo's to follow once we've completed it.
With regards to Christmas 2010 deliveries, we have just been passed this press release from DHL, just minutes ago.
A Quick Update
DHL Domestic recently took the difficult
decision to suspend collections from a small number of depots due to
large backlogs of parcels at these locations. The suspended areas do not
necessarily relate to areas that have had worst weather conditions but
rather to the distribution and storage of thousands of backlogged
parcels.
All courier networks have been affected by the extreme weather of the
last two weeks coinciding with Christmas volumes. Whilst we realise that
some other couriers have still been collecting in these areas, they are
generally not guaranteeing delivery timescales for Christmas and some
reports of seven day plus backlogs are circulating. The decision was
made to temporarily halt collections in the worst affected areas in
order to deal with the problem and resume a normal service as soon as
possible, rather than continue to collect large numbers of parcels which
would have exacerbated the situation.
Collections
We've seen a marked improvement in the reopening of depots and improved
service times over the past week. Unfortunately a few depots are still
not accepting ad-hoc collections, these are listed below, if you are on a
regularly scheduled collection you will continue to be unaffected.
Scotland
Edinburgh – 3 day backlog
Glasgow – 3 day backlog
Kilmarnock – 3 day backlog
Perth – 3 day backlog
Inverness – 3 day backlog
England
Hull – 2 day backlog
Gateshead – NE, TD, DH, SR all cancelled – 3 day backlog
Stockton – DL8, DL11 and YO – 1 day backlog
Lincoln – 1 day backlog
Sheffield – DE4,5,55 19,S21,25,26,32,33,36,42,44,49,63,64,71,72,75,81,96,97,98 – 3 day backlog
Goole – 1 day backlog
York – YO10-19, YO23,24,26,30,31,32,41,42,43,51,60,61,62,90,91 -backlog of 2 days
Loughborough – NG 5 ,6, 8 ,15 ,16, 12,,15,16,90 DE 75, 72 – backlog of 2 days
Croydon – SE & SW – 1 day backlog
Dartford – 2 day backlog
The time-frame for clearing backlogs are just estimates. Some depots have
been opening sooner and some later, we will keep you updated with
information as & when we receive it.
Because of the usual high availability of DHL collections, many of our
users have grown accustomed to assuming that collection bookings are
always automatically accepted. Under normal circumstances this is of
course true over 99% of the time. During this difficult period however,
we would urge you when booking your collections to please be sure to
check back on the 'Book a Collection' page to determine that your
collection has been confirmed. We have also instigated new email alerts
upon booking rejections in order that you can be better informed
whenever problems do occur.
Several depots have re-opened today (15/12/2010):
Leeds
Stoke-on-Trent
Keighly
Chelmsford
Redhill
Canterbury
Maidstone
Thanks
We understand and share your frustration at this busy and very
important time of year. We realise that the past couple of weeks have
been highly stressful for both you and your customers. We hope you will
accept our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience caused and will
continue shipping with us into the new year and beyond.
We are always looking to push art in a variety of contexts, and explore new avenues and opportunities, so we were thrilled when we were propositioned by the Zest arts in health to work on a brand new concept for the healthcare system. Zest run arts in health project across Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with the objectives to providing patients focussed projects using all forms of visual and performing arts. Part of this is an active schedule to re-invigorate the hospitals including corridors, wards, entrances and waiting areas – through this they hope to improve the welfare and motivation of staff and patients while helping to provide an overall positive experience of the Trust. Zest are now looking at ways to support these projects through sales of art.
The existing set-up in Sheffield encompasses the Clock Tower Gallery, run by the dynamic Kerry Blackett, who makes use of the exhibition space by working with & promoting local artists. Zest are core funded by Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust but they must continually support their invaluable projects through sales of arts and crafts in the Gallery.
They are pioneering in their field & we are very exited to be working with them – not only to support the exhibition schedule at the Gallery by hosting a vibrant exhibition of WhoArtNow prints but to make use of our eclectic catalogue of artwork to display within the Trust.
Zest's primary aim is to transform the healthcare experience, to improve patient's experiences at important times in their lives. A recent survey explains that nine out of ten people say that better quality surroundings improve their quality of life. [according to new MORI research published by the Commission for Architecture &the Built Environment (CABE) Sep 2009.]
The fundamental principle is simple: A good environment makes us feel better, & feeling better is the key to recovering faster. Research increasingly shows that well presented healthcare specially designed with reference to natural landscapes has a direct result on patients recovery times and making everyone feel better.
This is a Valuable program & we are all very happy to be involved with working with The Zest for Arts trust in Sheffield. watch this space for exhibitions and exciting new developments!
We have a very sneaky peak at some screen prints & originals by BOYD. All works are original, one of a kind pieces. Featuring different base layers sprayed up with layer upon layer of freehand graffiti. Expect to see some unbelievably tight graffiti, their trademark textured laying & masking, and some intensely bright fluorescent colours..... The process involved screen-printing the top layer in plastasol ink - for a crisp, matte finish. All art is printed on the very finest fine art paper - a 340gsm archive museum grade textured paper: The market leading Hahnemuhle media. Prints are signed by the artist, sealed and numbered for authenticity.
All prints created from scratch all at our Vinola House Studio in Leicester.
The prints have been made for a forthcoming solo exhibition by BOYD>> We are also very excited to be featuring some of BOYD's original works - as exclusives to WHoArtNow - so you will be seeing some prints released through our website in the near future. Watch this space - if you are a fan of BOYD please sign up to our newsletter and don't forget to visit their artist website for more info!
Anyone who knows us will know that we take pride in our canvas prints. Art is our life and so is this company! So we take great pride in knowing other people love our art as much as we do. So being featured on two episodes of ITV's 60 Minute Makeover!
And not only that, but they choose some of our favourite artwork! The Southend episode features Bleeding heart street art, and half of the Building Slums quad. The room is full od deep hues and some rather unique floral wallpaper. The Bleeding heart works well at adding a splash of vivid colour to the room.
The as yet unaired episode features 2 Morning dews and 2 Corn Field Photographs in a well lit neutral room full of pastel and earth colours. Adding in some colour through soft furnishings and the vibrant tones of Morning dew and Corn Field.
You can see the list of suppliers for the show on the ITV website. For those who haven't seen the show, a (large) crew spend 60 minutes doing out two rooms in a house. It's fast paced and fun TV to watch during the day and have some pretty well known interior designers involved in the designing and planning. For the Southend episode we were lucky enough to work with designer Linda Barker to get the artwork she wanted for the interior space. Linda Barker is well known for her TV presenting on British TV and is one of the most well known interior designers in the country.
Here at WHoArtNow we like to offer people as many options as we can on how to buy your canvas art and one of the new ways we introduced on the site was Cash on collection. Cash on collection was introduced to give people the option to come to our studio to collect your canvas print and pay for it in cash. This is great if you live locally (or happen to be in the area) as you can save not only some time, but also the cost of P&P!
However, due to a technical oversight in the buying process, cash on collection has been selected without knowing or realising. This has caused some problems and as such, we have currently disabled the option for cash on collection on the website untill further notice.
Fear not, just because it's not on the site, doesn't mean you still can't do it! However, if you want to do cash on collection, please contact us and we'll happily talk you through the process and how to find us! Plus if you time it right, you might get a cuppa and a great view of an Autumn sunset over Leicester City and the Space Station!
On of Frazier Boyd's latest piece of stencil art takes an afro blending in with floral illustrations, hand stencilled onto a sheet of rusty steel for that raw, industrial look. Available exclusively from WHoArtNow now!
For those of you who know us or have visited us here at WHoArtNow in Leicester, you will know that for the last 3 years, we've been situated on London Rd in the prestigious Financial District. This was a fantastic place for us to nurture our family run business, but due to us growing steadily over the last 3 years, we had no space left!
In 2008 / 2009 we started seriously looking for somewhere bigger. Previously, we had a total of 1050 sqft split over 4 rooms. We were looking at doubling our size & after almost a year of looking for something suitable and within our price range, we stumbled upon Vinola House.
Vinola House is in short, an artists paradise! Solid wood floor, high volted wooden beamed ceiling, 1930's industrial with a fantastic unique solid metal front door and our favourite part, the old fashioned "Ghost Busters" Industrial lift! Plus, and this is probably the most crucial thing for us in the art industry, lots and lots of natural light. It needed some work bringing it up to scratch, so at the start of 2010 with some help from some fantastic friends and family, we have re-done the floor, repaired all the windows, built a partition wall and re-painted the whole place. On top of that, we have built ourselves a bespoke in door spray booth with it's own excessive extraction system. This should, when we have it fully set up and operational reduce our production time on our hand sprayed metal and vinyl art!
We feel really positive about this space. It's in one big open space, we can organise better. With all this space, we also have great opportunities to expand our company & take us on in this amazing journey!
We've got loads to do this year too, with our new V2.0 website launching later this year, and our new vinyl sticker section should launch at the same time. We're really excited about these, so we couldn't wait and stuck one on our front door! Over the next few months as we start doing some one off artwork for our white walls, we'll keep our friends and fans updated on both our Facebook page, and our Twitter feed. Feel free to pop down and see us if you are local too and check the new studio!
[11/03/2009] We have been busy working away over the last few months working on lots of exciting new ranges of art. We've got the forthcoming wall stickers as well as the much anticipated range by international artist, Frazier BOYD.
So the Metal art has landed after over a year of creative developing. Part of the successful Plastic Art range that we started this time last year, we are following on with iconic artwork hand stencilled on high quality stainless steel. The high quality steel is rust proof, weatherproof & with a coating of clear lacquer, we are able to offer these pieces of hand made art as external art work as well as internal. Mounting the metal on the wall, we are using sign support bolts to set it 20-40mm off the wall. This means that it has a rock-solid mounting & gives it a slick, contemporary look. Making a great addition to any interior, we also firmly believe these pieces would look spectacular in a garden or courtyard. These exclusive designs are hand-produced, sealed with lacquer and finished with the usual WHoArtNow seal of approval.
To kick the range off, we are launching a range of 12 very special designs, from the Daft Punk, Slash and Darth Vadar you see here, we'll also be adding Scarface, Oasis and R2D2. More will be coming, and as you may have noticed, most of these are unique pieces of art exclusively for out new Metal Art range. If you have any suggestions for some metal art, why not leave us a suggestion in the comments?
There going to be available in 1 size initially, 620mm by 550mm (24.5" x 21.5") but we hope to offer a selection of sizes for various budgets shortly. The starting price for the 620mm x 550mm is going to be £109.00 (with £9.95 P&P) and that will become our "medium" size. Sadly these photos don't do the metal art justice. The brushed stainless steel finish looks amazing in the flesh. The black contrasts really well with the soft, yet reflective metal to create a truly stunning piece of contemporary modern art. There is also the possibility of custom "photo2metal" becoming available later in the year depending on demand. Also watch out for some "exclusive" Metal Art from our resident Stencil Artist Frazier Boyd who's done such a good job on our canvas prints that we're getting him to do more! Are you on Facebook? If so, why not show some love and join us? Also feel free to check out our our Plastic Art brochure.
At the WHoArtNow studios we are constantly innovating & designing products for your home and office spaces. At the moment we're doing some product testing on some interesting new modern artwork just for you. We're looking into adding a full range of Vinyl wall stickers, as well as our original metal and perspex modern art. So what exactly is a vinyl wall sticker? The name gives it away really, it's a sticker for your wall made from a self adhesive vinyl. The vinyl can be a single block colour, or printed on before being cut by our cutters. You apply them to walls, windows, tiles - pretty much anything that you can think of with a nice smooth surface. The vinyl we're looking at using is of the highest quality.... we will use two types of vinyl: For the single colour stickers, we will use a 7 year pre coloured vinyl. If you use it inside this will have a longer life as UV will not wear the colour away. For the printed stickers, we will be using a 4 yr matt vinyl - this figure is quoted for external use. Internal use should be much higher (10-15yrs) as we will be using the same UV resistant giclee inks that we use to guarantee our canvas prints for an amazing 75yrs! So what sort of art are we working on? All sorts, if you take a look through our ranges of canvas art, you'll see we have an eclectic taste in art. Initially we started with just street art styles, before looking into some pop / cult / retro styles. Floral will play a big part, as well as an up and coming kids range. Some people will be looking at these stickers wondering how hard they are to put up. Although they look complex, they are not as hard as you think. The vinyl stickers will be sent out with 'application paper' already in place, and we'll provide a 'squeegee' to apply it. We'll go into more detail about applying the stickers in a video when the range is launched, but fear not, as from our experimenting, we've found it relatively easy, and well worth it for the grand finale on your wall! We're still searching through supplies for the best vinyl at the best price to keep the price as low as we can. At the moment, WHoArtNow is finishing off the range which we hope to launch within the next 4 - 8 weeks. If you like the look and want more information or news, subscribe to our new art blog and we'll keep you updated. Also feel free to check out our modern art Wall Sticker brochure.
